Located in the Brownstone Medical Complex in Middlesboro, KY, the “open” type scanner allows mobility and functionality which is simply unmatched by the more common “closed” type MRI scanners.
The most common benefit of an “open” MRI is the increased comfort for patients. “Closed” scanners typically require the patient’s entire body to be inserted into the tube-like center of the machine for a scan to take place. This often causes patients, even those who have no previous experience with claustrophobia, to become anxious and irritated, frequently complicating the scanning process.
The goal of Open MRI of Kentucky is not only to provide the best of care possible through leading-edge technology, but to also make the experience as comfortable for the patient as possible. Open MRI of Kentucky realizes the needs of various individuals; thus, choosing a MRI that not only eases anxiety but allows larger individuals ease of access and comfort was a top priority. Ronald S. Dubin, M.D.
Ronald S. Dubin, M.D. has been in practice in Southeast Kentucky since March, 1987. He is married to Jo Ann Dubin since 1987 and has four children, Carly, Natalie, Katherine, and Nathan.
Dr. Dubin completed his undergraduate education from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and medical school from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1980. He then completed his residency in orthopedics at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He is licensed to practice medicine in Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, and Missouri. His hobbies include long distance running (completed 33 marathons) as well as flying his Mooney 201 airplane for which he is an instrumented rated pilot.
As Clinical Adjunct Professor for the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, he enjoys teaching many of the orthopedic lectures given to each first year class and enjoys having third medical year students to rotate with him. Dr. Dubin is a member of several medical and specialty associations including the American Medical Association, Kentucky Medical Association, Kentucky Orthopedic Association, and also serves as a board member to the American Medical Athletic Association.

Why have an MRI diagnostic test?
- It is a non-invasive and safe diagnostic test.

What could prevent me from getting an MRI?
You CANNOT have a MRI scan if you have…
- A cardiac Pacemaker
- Cerebral Aneurysm Clips
- Cochlear Implants
- Implanted Insulin or Chemotherapy Pumps
- Implanted Neuro-stimulator Devices
- Pregnant
- Metal Fragments in the Eye(s)
How do I prepare for an MRI scan?
- No special preparations are necessary; eat, drink, and take medications normally.
- Wear comfortable clothes; if your clothing has any metal snaps or buttons, you will be asked to change into a hospital gown.
- Leave your jewelry and watches at home. These items are affected by the magnet, and you cannot wear them during a scan. Lockers are available, however we are not responsible for lost items.
- Be sure to bring all insurance info and ID cards.
- If your physician requested previous X-rays or CTs, please bring those films with you. You may have a family member or friend present during the scan, however this person must be screened for conditions that prevent them from being present in the scan room.

How long does it take to see MRI scan results?
Scan reports are available within 24 hours, (same day scans and reports are available per physician’s request).
All scans are reviewed by two board certified, fellowship trained radiologists; one of the radiologists is the nationally recognized Stephen Pomeranz, M.D., author of numerous textbooks on MRI.
Your MRI report will be mailed or faxed automatically to your physician. MRI images are available to you on a CD upon request.
